About Hellion Trace

Hellion Trace is an award-winning company, specialising in world-class productions that fuse movement and technology together. Based at the Pervasive Media Studio (Bristol UK) Hellion Trace create large scale shows, interactive installation and touring productions that have been commissioned worldwide including USA, Brazil, Ireland, Croatia, Europe, India, Japan, and Indonesia. Founder Laura Kriefman, and the wider Hellion Trace team are skilled consultants in a range of areas:

1) City design and interactive installation design: Winners of the Smart Oxford Playable City Commission 2017, and 2 x finalists for the Playable City Award Hellion Trace have built interactive installations designed for public spaces that have been encountered worldwide: from Japan, Brazil and India, to Shanghai, San Francisco and Sheffield. Our public installations reach 1,000 people per day.

2) Collaborative co-production processes and techniques: Hellion Trace are renown for facilitating diverse collaborations and have run mentoring and workshops exploring their creative techniques in universities around the world.

3) Complex performance systems: Our spectacles are performed worldwide to audiences of 10,000 people a night. Projects like Mass Crane Dance involve complicated integrated performance systems, citywide permissions and advance strategic and emergency planning. Mass Crane Dance which was launched with WIRED Magazine. Mass Crane Dance is a spectacular meeting of music, light, and synchronised construction cranes dancing across the skylight at night: The inaugural Crane Dance Bristol event was seen by 10,000 people and reached 4 million people online.

4) Cultural leadership: Hellion Trace’s Founder, Laura Kriefman is an award winning Choreographer and Creative Technologist. She is a Mozilla XR Studio Fellow 2018, a member of Deeplab UK, a PRS UK Female Innovator in Music 2017 (Keychange.eu), a 2016 INK Fellow, 2015 WIRED Magazine/The Space Creative Fellow and a 2011-2012 Fellow of the Clore Cultural Leadership Programme. Hellion Trace’s awards include: Outstanding Contribution to Innovation – Media Innovation Award 2013; Best Exhibition/Event- Media Innovation Award 2013; Royal Television Society Award for Best Digital Innovation 2012; and an Honorary Mention, Prix Des Arts, Ars Electronica, Smart Oxford Playable City Commission 2017.

5) Digital and dance Leadership: Laura is a sort-after facilitator in the field of digital and dance- in example she was recently brought in as an expert facilitator with Candoco, and at to work with Y-Cam in Japan at the Kyoto Experiment.
