The Light fantastic

One of the challenges for Kicking the Mic, is making a wearable controller, that gives me visual feedback, and allows me to control the looping, and sample choices during the tracks. It has to be wireless, and not so small that I hit all the wrong buttons, mid spin, mid performance. We had also talked alot about how important it is to make sure that people are able to see and understand how the music is being created by the dancing, and how that will support the empathic journey for the audience.

With the help of the wonderful Kaspar Emanuel (who helped me build the unit), and some sunday evening advice from Phill Tew, I managed to make this: It’s using the fabulous X-OSC from X-IO Technologies. I like their stuff alot: It’s rigorous, robust and adaptable.
